Today's daily reading

Today's daily reading is:

Friday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Lectionary: 351

Reading 1SIR 44:1, 9-13

Now will I praise those godly men,
our ancestors, each in his own time.
But of others there is no memory,
for when they ceased, they ceased.
And they are as though they had not lived,
they and their children after them.
Yet these also were godly men
whose virtues have not been forgotten;
Their wealth remains in their families,
their heritage with their descendants;
Through God’s covenant with them their family endures,
their posterity, for their sake.

And for all time their progeny will endure,
their glory will never be blotted out.

Responsorial PsalmPS 149:1B-2, 3-4, 5-6A AND 9B

R. (see 4a) The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Sing to the LORD a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
R. The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the LORD loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.
R. The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy upon their couches;
Let the high praises of God be in their throats.
This is the glory of all his faithful. Alleluia.
R. The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.

AlleluiaSEE JN 15:16

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
I chose you from the world,
to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelMK 11:11-26

Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple area.
He looked around at everything and, since it was already late,
went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

The next day as they were leaving Bethany he was hungry.
Seeing from a distance a fig tree in leaf,
he went over to see if he could find anything on it.
When he reached it he found nothing but leaves;
it was not the time for figs.
And he said to it in reply, “May no one ever eat of your fruit again!”
And his disciples heard it.

They came to Jerusalem,
and on entering the temple area
he began to drive out those selling and buying there.
He overturned the tables of the money changers
and the seats of those who were selling doves.
He did not permit anyone to carry anything through the temple area.
Then he taught them saying, “Is it not written:

My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples?
But you have made it a den of thieves.”

The chief priests and the scribes came to hear of it
and were seeking a way to put him to death,
yet they feared him
because the whole crowd was astonished at his teaching.
When evening came, they went out of the city.

Early in the morning, as they were walking along,
they saw the fig tree withered to its roots.
Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look!
The fig tree that you cursed has withered.”
Jesus said to them in reply, “Have faith in God.
Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,
‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’
and does not doubt in his heart
but believes that what he says will happen,
it shall be done for him.
Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer,
believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.
When you stand to pray,
forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance,
so that your heavenly Father may in turn
forgive you your transgressions.”

The Catholic Church

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholic

So far I like what I have read. They went into great detail. It seems to be neutral in defining the Catholic Church.

What is an anabaptist?

While reading the definition for apostolic, first on www.newadvent.org, and then on www.wikipedia.com I came across the term Anabaptist. I decided to look it up, realizing that I really knew very little on this subject. I still do know very little!

I originally thought Anabaptist meant anti baptism de to the pre-fix "ana". Ten I came to realize what "Anabaptist" meant really meant.

ANABAPTIST(Wikipedia) from the Greek "avá means "over again". Anabaptist: "Christians who believe in delaying baptism until the candidate confesses his/her faith".

Most likely waiting until the age of reason for a candidate to say, "mom, dad, I want to be baptized."

The other option is the church accepts the confession of faith starting from young adulthood. I need to enquire more.

I got on to this because it pops up in the topic of Apostolic Christian Church. (Please note the picture below as a reference.)

Evangelizing Christ

Today I was witness to a short evangelizing of Jesus Christ by a Jehovah Witness. Her method of evangelizing was to hold her religious magazines in her arms and say (paraphrasing) "Jesus Christ is coming. Prepare to go to heaven. Jesus Christ loves you."  She would say it as she entered or exited the room she was in.

Do you evangelize? Do you do it every day? Do you do it on occasion?

What does evangelizing mean to you?

This article explains how Christians and Jews must unite against secularism.

Denver's Archbishop Aquila restores sacraments to original order :: EWTN News

The original order of the sacraments had first communion and confirmation in the same ceremony at the age of reason.

Under Common Law the age of reason was seven (7).  This age of reason was given for legal matters. How old does a child have to be to know right from wrong, and be legally responsible in court.

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Age+of+Reason

Newadvent.org agrees with the age of seven. Realizing moral reasoning may come a big before or after said age. At this age a child is held responsible under "ecclesiastical law" (newadvent.org)

We Thank you, Lord, for the two days of rain we received last Thursday and Friday. It had been so long since it had rained that duration and intensity it was foreign to many of us.

The Golden Rule Mistaken for An Eye For An Eye

Last week a teacher reminded her students not to bother the model projects of other students. She states the Golden Rule of DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.  One student tried to say he could bother the other students project but not vice versa. She cut him off in mid-sentence and stated that if he messed up the other student's project, then that student has the right to come in and mess up his project in the same manner. That stopped the student in his place, immediately.

However, I must state that the verse, AN EYE FOR AN EYE fits this situation better.
Exodus 21:22-25 Here states that if two men fight and hurt a pregnant woman and she miscarries, then the guilty party must pay restitution as demanded by the husband. However, if bodily injury occurs to the wife then, a life for a life, eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.

Extrapolating these verses into every day justice, people have been demanding revenge for crimes against themselves from the perpetrators. "If you burn my house down, then I'll burn your house down." "If you kill my animal, I'll kill your animal." An example on tv was shown on THE WALTONS tv series.  John Walton, sr. was part of the war effort. He inducted a neighbor's son into the army; against the family's wishes. When the son was found from hiding he was sent with his troop to Europe. Unfortunately he did not survive. The father demanded restitution for the death of his son: "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. A son for a son."

My pastor once explained to us: an eye for an eye means exactly that. The same way you hurt me I can hurt you back and NOT MORE.  If you step on my toes, I'll step on your toes, back. It does not mean I go get my gang and beat you up.

Please take a moment to read exodus 21 in full context. See what you get from it.

Amen.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the Beginning, is now and Ever shall be. Amen.

Caridad de las Mercedes.

We thank you Lord,...

We thank YOU, Lord, for the rain we received today in drought stricken California. We know every drop counts. Please help us to realize our pipes need mending or replacing before they burst. Please help us to open our eyes, heart and mind, to conserve water.

We ask this in the name of our Lord, Jesus, Your son. Amen.

The Seven Deadly Sins

(Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.)

The Holy Bible mentions seven deadly sins. In the Catholic church they are know to be mortal sins and great vices as stated by St. Timothy. The seven deadly sins are not to be confused with Venial Sin and Mortal Sin.

Q. What is sin?

Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines sin as:
  • 1 a : an offense against religious ormoral law
b : an action that is or is felt to behighly reprehensible <it's a sin towaste food>
c : an often serious shortcoming :fault
  • 2 a : transgression of the law of God
b : a vitiated state of human naturein which the self is estranged fromGod

Q. What is Venial sin?

Q.  What is mortal sin?

1.  Envy: (from Wikipedia) is anemotion which "occurs when a person lacks another's superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it".[1]

2.  Greed

3.  Lust (from newadvent.com): The wrongfulness of lust is reducible to this: that venereal satisfaction is sought for either outsidewedlock or, at any rate, in a manner which is contrary to the laws that govern marital intercourse.

4.  Pride (Vainglory) excessive pride in one's excellence. Withdrawing self from Almighty God due to pride in self. (Newadvent.com)

5.  Gluttony: the excessive indulgence in food and drink. (NewAdvent.com)

6.  Wrath: the desire for vengeance. Sinful when it's wishes on someone who doesn't deserve it. (Newadvent.com)

7.  Sloth: (in general) "a disinclination to labor or exertion" (St. Thomas II-II:35) (newadvent.org)
